Adea or Metabase?
Metabase shows you the numbers. Adea also shows why the number came out the way it did, and which rule in the code decided it. Many use both.
| Adea | Metabase | |
|---|---|---|
| How you get an answer | You write a question in plain language | You build a dashboard or a query in advance |
| Who can use it from day one | Sales, support and management | People who know the data model, or people someone built dashboards for |
| Understands your business rules | Yes, by reading the code, approved by developers | Only if someone put the rule into the query |
| Explains why | Yes, with sequence and sources | No, it shows the number |
| A new question, no setup | Yes | Needs a new query or a new card |
| Fixed reports and dashboards | Saved questions, Overview and email or Slack | Very mature, many chart types |
| Operating model | Hosted, read-only, EU | Hosted or self-hosted |
Choose Adea if
- Sales and support are stuck on "ask the developer".
- You have a lot of business logic in code that is not in the database.
- You want an answer now, not a dashboard next week.
Choose Metabase if
- Your data team already maintains good dashboards.
- You need advanced charts and shared reports with many filters.
- You want to self-host the whole tool.
Frequently asked questions
Can we use both?
Yes. Metabase is strong for fixed dashboards, Adea for the questions nobody has built a dashboard for yet.
Can Adea read our Metabase questions?
Not directly. Adea reads code and database. Questions you save in Adea can be re-run and sent to Slack.
